An EU citizen exercising free-movement rights in Malta may be joined by qualifying family members. The route can cover a spouse, a durable partner where the required relationship evidence is met, and children under 21. Older children, parents and parents-in-law may qualify in dependency situations.
Applications are submitted through the Expatriates Unit Portal under the Family Member basis. The supporting documents depend on the family relationship and the sponsor’s own residence basis.
Non-EU family members must normally provide a full passport copy. Relationship evidence such as marriage or birth certificates is also required, and health-insurance requirements may apply depending on the sponsor’s basis of residence.
