Register through the Expatriates Portal
EU citizens may live in Malta for up to three months without registering for a residence document. If they intend to stay longer than three months while exercising EU free-movement rights, they must register their residence with Identità.
For an employed EU national, the employment should be active with Jobsplus and the residence application is submitted through the Expatriates Unit Portal under the Employment basis.
The applicant will need proof of identity and evidence supporting the employment basis. If the person already holds a Maltese residence card, the same registration number is generally used for subsequent applications.
EU nationals may work in Malta before the residence card is issued, but the employment itself must be properly registered with Jobsplus.
