Malta’s non-EU Economic Self-Sufficient residence route is not a general option for anyone who simply has savings. Identità currently accepts applications under this basis from beneficiaries of specific local residence, investment or tax programmes.

The official page refers to programmes such as the Global Residence Programme, Malta Permanent Residence Programme, Malta Retirement Programme and certain citizenship-related cases. Applicants must already hold valid authorisation to reside in Malta, such as a residence permit or visa, when required by the route.

Applications are submitted through the Expatriates Unit Portal. Identità currently lists a €100 fee for both new and renewal applications, and travel documents submitted with the application must have at least eight months validity.

Because eligibility depends heavily on the underlying programme, confirm your programme status before preparing a residence application.
