Malta changed the health-screening procedure for work permits in May 2026. Here is the important information for applicants and workers.
From 4 May 2026, Malta moved work-permit health screening to a new automated process. Identità announced that paper-based health-screening submissions would no longer be accepted for new applications, renewals or changes of job under the new procedure. The change also expanded health-screening requirements to third-country nationals from low-risk TB countries working in other job categories. During the health-screening process, the doctor accesses the system and requires identifying information relating to the applicant. Applicants should therefore make sure they have the information and documentation requested for the screening appointment. The final health approval required for a Single Permit application is issued after the applicable health requirements have been completed; merely showing that a health-screening application was started is not necessarily sufficient. Because health requirements can depend on the application and employment situation, always check the current official health-screening instructions before submitting a new, renewal or change-of-job application.
